Home Guard Private B.A.R. Gunner Circa 1942 A Home Guard B.A.R. (Browning Automatic Rifle) stands in Full Battle Order - Summer 1942. About to go 'on a scheme' (an exercise with regular troops) our private wears the standard cotton Denim Battledress. Around his waist is a 1903 Pattern leather belt with a belt loop hanger for his service jack-knife and a leather frog for his bayonet. Webbing ammunition pouches are worn at the front - they carry the magazines for the U.S. supplied Browning Automatic Rifle. In the 'Alert' position on his chest you can see his Mk VI Service Respirator bag. A slung waterbottle in leather carrier and a Home Guard pattern haversack can also be seen. Black ammunition (ammo) boots, brown leather anklets and a MkII Steel Helmet complete with camouflage net complete the uniform. Our Home Guard carries a bayonet for the P17 Rifle - no doubt he will resort to this weapon as a last resort or for simply prising open ammunition boxes. Insignia shown is a simple HOME GUARD armband printed on Khaki coloured cotton this was worn on the upper right arm. |
